Welcome Back, Judy
I’ve come up for air. Did anyone miss me? I’ve been out of the communication loop for a bit since my mother’s surgery on her hip. And I would like to thank all of you who have inquired about her or remembered her in your prayers.
I thought a ‘light’ blog entry might be appropriate today.. One that is not too serious. I’ve got some other more lengthy and thought provoking (well, at least I hope so) ones on the back burner. Today I thought I’d tell you about some of my favorite hats. Previously here at PJ I had told about some of my favorite mugs that I have.
As I have mentioned before, I think PD has affected my choice of style….and that extends to hats. I wish ladies still wore hats like they used to years ago, but I guess it got to be too much to carry a baby, a purse, and a hat (if you needed to cool off). On several Easter Sundays at church I have worn a nice hat only because I knew one other lady wore one on Easter Sunday as well.
Hats can serve all kinds of purposes: shade, advertising, hiding bad hair, and plenty of other ideas too …I’m sure there are more reason or there would not be so many hats around. I’ll admit it…I don’t look good in a baseball hat, but I still have some of the to show my team spirit or affiliation.
So here are some of my favorite hats, in no particular order of preference…

Left to right:
Supergirl visor–it’s got those little diamond chips on it..totally classy don’t you think? I really like visors.. I have a few others but they all are dirty looking now.
Pink cowgirl hat–you can never go wrong in a cowgirl or cowboy hot…they are the epitomy of cool. I got this one when my friend Jeanette came to Tennessee to visit.. She talked me out of my first favorite one, and I guess that was good cause this one has really grown on me. I think my husband must like it too! He bought his first real cowboy hat at the beach this year, and I must say he looks mighty fine in it!!! Lol
Flowery captains cap (not sure if it really is a captain cap, but looks like it to me)– I bought this one at the Vanderbilt gift shop. My mom saw it first and said “Look a hat that matches ‘da coat!” Isn’t my mom just the best? So I bought it the next day and showed it to her after her surgery. It made her smile (kind of like ‘da coat…ya know?)
Reversable goofy hat–flowers on one side and denim on the other. This hat is just one of the 6 paneled cover your head hats –I got it when I went to Oregon to visit Sherri. I have put all my little souvenir pins on it as well. You probably can’t see them in this picture.
The orange ball cap with “T” on it is for the Tennessee Volunteers. My home state and I’m proud to be a part of the history of living here. And I love to watch the Lady Vols play basketball!
The brown felt phedora hat??? Is that what it is.?? Oh well…I got a great deal on it when Sherri came to Tennesse to visit. Something about these Parkie friends coming to visit must make me want to mark the occasion with a hat purchase. Lol I added the butterfly pin to this hat just cause it looked like it need a little sparkle. I think this hat looks really nice on me.
And last the big orange top hat. Yes, I bought it on a trip. This one came from hat store on Pier 39 in San Franscisco. I had ‘da coat with me and thought it complimented the coat’s style well. This hat really looks best on Marian (from California).
So there you have it..Judy’s favorite hats. Now you know a little more about my twisted parkie personality! You have anything favorite you’d like to share with us? We’d be glad to see and possible share it with others here at Parkinson’s Journey.
Have a good day…and put a hat on just for the fun of it. You might be able to start a conversation with a stranger with it!

Thanks for visiting us, Bruce. You’re right – most of the time PD is an inconvenience, but thankfully we somehow learn to deal with it. OCC is a great distraction to what ails us and glad to hear you’re a part. If there’s any way we can encourage you, please let us know. Stay in touch – sherri

Not too sure just how to take the PD I’ve got. Most of the time it’s just an inconvience. I guess my having what the Dr said was a light case helps. See the Dr each qtr, get my Rx from the VA as needed. My wife and I are looking to work with Opration Christmas Child in Nov/Dec. It’ll be my 9th year. Don’t get out to seminars, etc., as most of them are in the evenings. Don’t like to drive at night anymore. My eyes are as old as I am (75) and they would rather stay home and rest with the hearing aids.
